Prescom S.A. Resita - Short history and presentation

The communal services enterprise was set up in 1948, in Resita, to provide public services to the population and economical operators, under the name of Resita Communal Services Enterprise.

The first activities carried out were:

• distribution of drinking water;
• distribution of electrical power for industry, public lighting and household consumption;
• public transportation, conducted by means of two small capacity buses which covered a route in length of 5.2 km;
• administration of a housing fund made up of 2,638 apartments.

The water was extracted from the five fountains located on the current emplacement of the company, which actually gave the name of the street the production base of SC Prescom SA is located on. The length of the distribution network was of about 20 km, and sewerage accounted for 8 km.

This was the beginning of some activities which along the way developed, diversified and reorganized, turning from Resita Communal Services Enterprise to Resita Town Services Management Enterprise, starting with January 1st, 1957.

To the initial activities, sanitation and chimney sweeping were later on added. On April 1st 1959 the Resita Town Services and Local Industry Unit (CILGOR) was set up, by joining the Town Services Enterprise with the Local Industry, performing the following activities:

• collection, transport and storage of industrial and household wastes;
• administration, maintenance of the state housing fund, tenants and other purpose spaces;
• rendering of services in constructions and construction equipment for works under own administration and for third parties;
• selling of housing spaces out of the state housing fund;
• undertakers and cemetery administration;
• auto transport and other services with the equipment in possession;
• public bath and town swimming pool;
• chemical cleaners;
• sports activity (football, judo, chess).

RA Prescom converts itself into a trade company, namely SC Prescom SA, in April 1998, with the same field of activity. Following the Decisions of the Local Council in 2001 and 2005, the activity of thermic distribution was transferred to SC CET Energoterm SA, and the distribution of water and sewerage was transferred to SC AQUACARAS SA.

Currently, SC PRESCOM SA Resita has as main fields of activity:

• town public transport;
• collection, transport and storage of household and industrial wastes;

For the proper performance of the activity, the organisational chart provides for 2 departments:

• local transport;
• sanitation.

Currently, in the municipality of Resita public passenger transport is done with trams and buses of average and large size, and to the surrounding villages is done with small capacity buses. Total length of routes is of:

• 145 km for buses;
• 18.2 km for trams;

Due to the street configuration of Resita municipality, our means of transport cover the entire area of the town, and all the main roads. The local transport department is organised in two sectors:

• exploitation;
• maintenance.

Equipment with means of transport: 19 GT8 tram setsand 9 GT8 E tram sets; 17 buses, out of which:

• 5 IK 280 articulated;
• 12 ROMAN;
• 2 Daewoo cars;
• 9 utility vans;
• 7 IVECO vans;

Other equipment and property:

• headquarter of the department and administrative location;
• workshops for electrical and mechanical maintenance and repairs;
• parking spaces for buses and trams;
• warehouses;

The total area of the space in use is of 22.315 sqm. The number of employed staff, according to the organisational chart is of 237. The number of passengers every month is of 860,000 people. Monthly turnover: RON 584.111.

The sanitation department of the Prescom SA has two sectors:

• collection and transport of household wastes;
• maintenance, repairs and exploitation of waste dump.

Vehicle park consists of:

• 7 garbage trucks with containers;
• 18 compacting vehicles;
• 1 tilting vehicle;
• 2 U650 tractors with trailers;
• 1 multipurpose ARO;
• 1 multipurpose DAC:
• 2 bulldozers ;
• 2 front loading vehicles;
• 1 Volkswagen minivan;
• 3 Daewoo cars.

Other equipment:

• workshops for maintenance and repairs;
• auxiliary workshops (painting, electric, vulcanization shops);
• waste dump for the storage of household wastes with an area of 29 acres and with all the strictly necessary arrangements (barrack for the exploitation staff, fire extinguishing installation, plastic bottles collection shed);

Collection of waste is done in:

• 220 containers of 4 and 6 cubic meters;
• 250 eurocontainers of 1.1 cubic meters;
• 500 garbage containers of 80 and 110 litres;
• 600 street garbage bins;
• Tall blocks of flats are equipped with tubes and waste collection spaces;

Starting with July 1st 2006 the street sweeping activity was taken over from SC Urban SA Resita. Number of staff according to the organisational chart is 124. The montly quantity of waste collected and transported is of 11.000 cubic meters. Alongside the main activities, the company also has two more departments:

• rendering of services;
• commercial services.

Activities performed:

• maintenance of elevators;
• administration of cemeteries and undertakers;
• repairs and maintenance of own means of transport;
• car repair services;
• car wash service;
• restaurant;

Total number of company's staff, as of December 31st 2006, is of 487. Turnover for 12 months: RON 12.732.015. PRESCOM SA Resita has as objective the performance of high quality services, having committed itself to maintain and improve a Quality Management System in accordance to the SR EN ISO 9001:2001 standard.
